Welcome
I’m a London-based paper conservator specialising in art on paper and archival paper objects. Since graduating with distinction from Camberwell College of Arts in London, I have been working as a freelance paper conservator at UCL Special Collection and with private conservators as well as having completed a three-month internship at John Jones London. I am interested in the innovative use of materials and techniques in conservation treatments. My MA project led my research to the use of a rigid gel made with Gellan gum, which was used successfully in cleaning and reducing foxing like discolourations on Xuan paper. For a concise summary of my work, the conference paper “Conservation of two contemporary Chinese woodblock prints using Gellan gum” (以結冷膠修復兩幅近代中國木刻版畫) can be downloaded from the IIC (International Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works) website here. I have since carried out other paper conservation treatments using Gellan gum, which I hope to make available online in the near future.
Professional background
I hold a MA in Art Administration from The University of New South Wales, Sydney and have worked for several art organisations. My interest in conservation started when I was co-producing and interviewing for a community TV programme, on which I met a private painting conservator who was trained in London and Florence. I later worked for the conservator as an assistant for six months and was then encouraged to gain formal qualification in London, where I received my MA Conservation (art on paper) in 2014 and where I now live.
